Choosing The Bra Best For Your Outfit: 12 Key Options

There are so many ways that choosing the wrong bra for the type of outfit that you are wearing can ruin the whole look that you are going for.

Sometimes it can be bra cups and straps showing above the scooped wide neck-line of your top.

Then there is what I see often with girls wearing racerback tank tops in summer. They check themselves in the mirror from the front only for exposed bra straps. They completely forget about the straps down their exposed shoulder blades at the back.

Maybe you want to hide the fact that you are wearing a bra completely, again only checking your front reflection in the mirror. You then head out completely unaware that the tell-tale shape of your bra’s backstrap and back clasp will make it clear to everybody around that you are wearing a bra.

So with that in mind, read on to find out what type of bra you should choose to wear under each of the different tops and shirts that you have in your closet. Let’s get your outfit game on point.

1. T-Shirt Bra:

This is probably the most comfortable bra of all. T-shirt bras are a perfect companion for almost all your fitted tops and dresses. The comfortable padding fits you like a second skin.

They give a gorgeously smooth silhouette, usually without any unnecessary bra lines, giving you no-show confidence under the thicker material of your fitted tops and dresses.

T-shirt bras also have the shape of bra-cup that makes it easier to add some inserts or padding if you are smaller up top.

2. Nude Bra:

One of the most common struggles we have is what to wear under a white outfit. I have covered this in my post about matching the correct panties to your outfit. The same rule applies to your bra as well.

The solution here is to stick to nude bras. In other words, choose a color that matches well with your skin tone. This is so that they can be invisible under those white outfits.

This way you don’t have to worry about the color contrast between your skin and the bra strap showing through even thin fabric tops.

3. Balconette bra:

If you’re planning to wear a broad neck top, the standard position of a bra strap at the front will be clearly visible and ruin the look you are going for.

This is especially true for tops that have a scooped neckline.

The good news is that the balconette bra is specifically designed for these types of outfits. They have wide-set straps and offer a little less coverage than your full coverage cups. This eliminates all sorts of ugly bra peeks.

The other cool thing when you are wearing your balconette bra under your broad, scooped neckline top is that you can get to practice your makeup skills and create/enhance your cleavage with makeup. Just in case you have forgotten, here is the article where I teach you how to do that.

4. Strapless bra:

The best bet for all those shoulder-baring outfits is a strapless bra. Some of these have removable straps making them quite adaptable. Strapless bras work perfectly under all your fancy off-the-shoulder outfits.

Please make sure that your underbust strap is a snug fit. The band should neither be too tight nor too loose for utmost ease. If the fit is too loose you will be constantly sticking your hands down your sexy bare-shoulder top to pull your bra up again. This can be quite embarrassing.

5. Plunge bra:

I am sure that you will agree with me that we all love wearing all those low neck outfits.

However, most of us refrain from doing so because our regular bras show underneath.

For these outfits, a plunge bra is exactly what you need. They come with a very low neckline, making them perfect for all those sexy low cut tops.

If you want some additional contour under your plunging neckline top, pick a push-up plunge bra that will lift and push the girls together to give you a sexy cleavage.

6. Transparent Bra:

The transparent bra is ideally for girls with a have heavy bust size.

If you have a heavy bust then your strapless bra will slide down no matter how snug the fit. In this case, you can choose a transparent bra that comes with transparent straps and sometimes a transparent back band too.

While they aren’t completely invisible, they are much less visible than your conventional bras, making a great choice for all your outfits.

Some strapless bras have hooks that allow you to attach straps. For these bras, you can add a set of transparent straps to give you some extra support and peace of mind.

A transparent bra is something that you may consider too if you are trying out a pair of heavy breast inserts.

7. Multiway bra:

The multiway bra is a step up from the strapless bra with detachable straps. You will have a set of different straps, for instance, a halter strap, cross-over straps, racer-back straps, and more.

In multiway bras, you can attach or detach the straps and style them in numerous ways to match your outfits.

A multiway bra is great for a short holiday or weekend away. You can pack a wider variety of tops in the space that you would have packed your bras. With your multiway bra, you can then adapt it to your outfit.

Even if you need to change a top in a hurry like when you buy a new top while on holiday and want to wear it out of the store, you can easily carry some of your multiway bra’s straps with you in your purse.

8. Sports bra:

A sports bra is a must-have for all of us. They are not only essential for women who sweat it out in the gym or do any other form of exercise.

Many sports bras are styled to look great as gym style crop tops. They also offer great support and comfort.

Because they are styled to be used as workout tops, most sports bras are pull-over bras meaning that they don’t have any back clasps. This is great for under a tight fitted top where you don’t want your bra clasp showing at the back.

9. Silicon cups:

Silicon cups, like their name suggests, these bras are made of silicon and work like stick-on bras. All you have to do is pull the plastic from the bra, place the cups on your breasts, and that’s all. These bras are probably the best bet if you wear some seriously tricky or low neck, backless outfits.

10. Cage bra:

If you want to wear one of those sexy sheer outfits, you already know that any bra that you wear will be clearly visible through your sheer top.

What you do is wear a cage bra underneath your sheer top to enhance your look.

So instead of trying to hide your bra, show off the edgy sexiness of those strappy details popping from under your favorite mesh t-shirt or dress.

11. Bralette:

Bralettes are the perfect amalgamation of bras and crop tops and have taken all the rage in the modern world.

They come in lovely and minimalist designs, making a total style statement with whatever you pair them with. Whether you want a contemporary daytime look or a perfect night time look, these are sure to transform your look.

What’s more, bralettes are perfect for small-breasted girls.

12. Racerback bra:

If you love all those funky tank tops, y-style tops, or crossover tops, a racerback bra can be a great option for you as it eliminates strap slipping and bra visibility. Another good thing about racerback bras is that they provide a high level of comfort as well as support, which becomes considerably important for women of all bust sizes.

Another thing about racerback bras is that because of their all-over snug fit they are great at holding breast forms in place without unwanted movement.
