Let’s take a closer look at each of these mascara hacks so that you can make your lashes as gorgeous as possible.

Mascara Hack 1: Find The Right Mascara For You

When it comes to choosing your mascara, it’s all about reaching for one that’ll help you achieve your desired lash look. That may be volume, length, or fullness. The natural question will be: How to pick? Relax, I’ve got options for each of these scenarios based on what I have on my vanity at the moment.

If you want to create a look of both length and volume, I suggest trying the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara (available on Amazon), which has a volumizing and lengthening effect. I love that it comes in a pretty pink tube. My favorite color – in case you didn’t know already.

If you want to create the look of length, my choice is the L’Oréal Paris Telescopic Original Mascara (available on Amazon). Just place the brush at the base of your lashes and gently sweep up to the tip.

If you want to create the look of volume, I’d grab the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Mascara (available on Amazon), which features an asymmetrical wing tip brush that can help catch every lash from corner to corner.

If you want to create the look of fullness, my suggestion is the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara (available on Amazon), which has a lash sculpting fiber formula that adheres to lashes for a volumized, sculpted lash effect.

During winter when there is a chance of a rain shower I like to have a waterproof option at my disposal. I use the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Feline Waterproof Mascara (available on Amazon). Have a feeling you’re going to cry at your friend’s upcoming wedding? Waterproof mascara could be the way to go.

Mascara Hack 2: Use A Primer First

You know how face primer can help create a smooth canvas for foundation, allowing it to glide onto your skin more easily? Well, think about eyelash primer in the same way. The L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Primer (available on Amazon) helps create an even base that will help boost the effects of your favorite L’Oréal Paris mascara. Simply sweep the brush from the base of your lashes to the tips and follow with the L’Oréal Paris mascara of your choice.

I almost forgot to mention, the L’Oréal Paris Lash Primer is a pretty pink. That way you can easily see when all your lashes have a coat of primer. In the same way, you will know when your lashes have a full coat of mascara – you won’t be able to see any pink primer showing through.

Mascara Hack 3: Apply It The Right Way

It’s time for me to burst the bubble of a common makeup myth: Pumping your mascara wand up and down in the tube isn’t necessary at all. Instead, gently pull the brush out of the tube and apply your mascara by sweeping the brush from the base of your lashes up to the tip. I once used to pump my mascara wand in the tube and suffered the frustration of having clumped mascara on my lashes because I’d overloaded my mascara wand with product. Luckily a makeup artist friend pointed out the error of my ways.

Mascara Hack 4: Coat Your Top And Bottom Lashes

I know that mascara on our top lashes creates the most dramatic look in the shortest period of time and I’m also guilty of only doing my top lashes when pressed for time.

But why should only your top lashes get all the love? For a seriously dramatic look, carefully apply a coat of mascara to your bottom fringe as well. Look in the mirror and say, “Hello, gorgeous!”

Mascara Hack 5: Add Individual Falsies

If you feel like your lashes need a little extra enhancement, try using individual falsies to help fill in gaps and add volume to the outer corners. I stopped using a full strip of false lashes for daily wear because they tend to look overdone. Individual lashes are subtler for an everyday look.

Mascara Hack 6: Say Hello To Color

Most of us probably tend to gravitate towards black or brown mascara for daily use, but adding a pop of color can be an easy way to change up your makeup routine and show some flair.

The L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara in Cobalt Blue (available on Amazon) is a gorgeous bright blue shade that looks flattering on just about everyone. To use, first prime your lashes, then apply the mascara. Pair it with an equally bright eyeliner, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Silkissime Eyeliner in Cobalt Blue (available on Amazon), but keep the rest of your makeup simple. Apply a full coverage foundation, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Total Cover Foundation (available on Amazon), to help hide virtually all of your surface skin imperfections, so that all the attention will be on your beautiful eyes. Finish off with a dab of barely-there lip color by using the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Le Gloss (available on Amazon).

The great thing about blue mascara and eyeliner is that blue is on the opposite side of the color wheel to red – so if your eyes are a little red, using blue mascara and eyeliner will help your eyes to look whiter.
