Is Dry Shaving a Major Mistake?

Imagine that you are getting ready for a night out when you suddenly realize you haven’t shaved your legs.

You are already running late so don’t have enough time to shave properly with warm water and shaving cream. You grab your razor and attempt a quick dry shave. I’ve done that so can speak from experience when I say don’t. Just don’t.

Like me, you may have haphazardly dry shaved in the past without causing any harm to your skin, the potential effects should be enough to immediately eliminate it from your skincare routine.

Instead of just leaving you with the message that yes, dry shaving is a mistake, I’ll break down how dry shaving can lead to several skincare issues.

I hope that by the time you finish this you are ready to add shaving gel to your shopping list.

How Dry Shaving Affects Your Skin

If you have already been dry shaving without a second thought, think of this as your wake up call and put your razor down until you have some shaving gel.

You should always give your skin the TLC it deserves. Dry shaving can wreak havoc on your skin.

You Can Get Razor Burn

I am sure that we all agree that razor burn is a major pain. If you opt for dry shaving, your razor has no “slip” to help remove the hair without irritating the skin. Instead, it will grip your skin leaving it looking and feeling red and tender.

There will likely also be those unsightly shave bumps and ingrown hairs for too, thanks to your dry razor.

Nicks And Cuts Could Be A Consequence

Wet shaving and wet shaving products were created to lubricate the skin for a seamless shave.

Neglecting to shave with water and the proper wet shaving products can make it more likely that you cut yourself thanks to how the razor grabs at your skin.

You May Experience A Burning Or Stinging Sensation

If you have ever experienced a burning or stinging sensation while dry shaving, that’s just another sign to turn back now.

Your Skin May End Up Extra Dry

Shaving products not only help you shave but they also often have nourishing ingredients to prevent skin dryness.

By removing them from your routine you just end up with really dry skin. Learn from my experience. It felt like no matter how much moisturizer I applied after a dry shave, my skin didn’t feel much better.

Dead Skin Cells Get In The Way

Exfoliating your skin is an essential part of your skincare routine. It is also a vital part of your shaving routine. That is because it clears your skin of dead skin cells, dirt, and debris from the skin.

Failing to exfoliate and cleanse your skin before shaving just means all of that buildup gets in the way and starts clogging your razor. That results in not actually removing hair the way you intended.

You Won’t Even Get A Smooth Shave

The reason why you choose to shave is that you want your skin to feel soft and smooth. Dry shaving equals dry skin which doesn’t feel soft. Using the right products for shaving is a key part of achieving soft skin post-shave.

If you don’t use shaving cream or gel it means that your razor won’t glide over your skin and catch every hair the way it should.

So instead of enjoying smooth skin after your shave, you will likely be left with a bit of frustrating stubble.

The Bottom Line On Dry Shaving

I know exactly how tempting it is to dry shave. That perceived time-saving is just not worth it.

Instead, take your time and give your skin a proper shave. Not only will your skin thank you for it, but it gives you the opportunity to relish in the fabulous feminine feelings it gives you.
