What Are Palazzo Pants: Get The Lowdown On Palazzo Pants

When choosing pants that both look and feel completely feminine there is nothing to my mind that comes remotely close to palazzo pants.

Palazzo pants are long loose-fitting pants featuring a wide leg from top to bottom. Palazzo pants are usually made from soft fabric that drapes around the legs more like a long skirt than a pair of pants. To a casual glance, palazzo pants are often mistaken for being a long flowing skirt.

Let’s take a more detailed look at what palazzo pants are and how to style your palazzo pants in an elegant manner.

What Are The Significant Features Of Palazzo Pants?

If you want to make a statement then palazzo pants could be the way to go. Featuring a wide-leg from top to bottom, these pants are far from tight-fitting. Palazzo pants are kind of like flares but on steroids; they’re long, loose, and just get wider the further down the leg you go. These pants scream comfort, freedom, and movement.

What Are The Origins Of Palazzo Pants?

Palazzo pants have been around since the 1920s and are believed to have been highly influenced by Asian fashion. But the word ‘palazzo’ is actually Italian and means palace so, where’s the link? Well, palaces are large buildings that give you the freedom to move around as you please and they are quite wide just like palazzo pants.

Coco Chanel rocked palazzo pants in the 1920s, Katharine Hepburn donned them in the 1930s but it wasn’t until the 1960s that these pants really gained popularity. This is because in that era, it was deemed inappropriate for women to wear pants and some fancy restaurants actually refused to grant entry to women wearing pants. To get around this problem, some women turned to palazzo pants because they can easily be mistaken for a long, flowing skirt if you’re not looking closely!

What Figure/Body Shape Is Best Suited To Palazzo Pants?

Palazzo pants can be worn by all body shapes and they can hide any areas that you don’t want on show. By choosing the right fabric, pattern, and length you can make these pants work for your body. And if you’re tall then palazzo pants will really complement your legs and make them look super long.

Which Kinds Of Tops Can You Pair With Palazzo Pants?

When it comes to tops, the less fabric the better as you don’t want to be drowning in fabric from top to bottom! Crop tops cropped jumpers, and t-shirts always look amazing as do bikini tops when on holiday. And you can’t go wrong with a silk camisole, vest, off-the-shoulder top, or long-sleeved blouse, tucked in.

Basically, if you look at palazzo pants as the star of the show then it will be easier to choose a top that will make the outfit.

What Shoes Work Best With Palazzo Pants?

Adding a pair of heels will give you some extra height which always looks great. Stilettos look fabulous with palazzo pants at any time of the year and strappy heels, wedges, and heeled mules are a fab look for spring/summer. For autumn/winter, it’s the pointed, high-heeled boot that will look stunning.

If you’re going for a casual look then flat sandals are a good choice when running errands or even pairing your bikini/palazzo pants combination with flip flops when hitting the beach.

Whether you are wearing heels or flats, it is important to be careful when it comes to the length of your palazzo pants as you don’t want to trip over when you are walking. Try to wear your palazzo pants at ankle length but if style demands it then try not to have too much fabric dragging on the floor!
