Playing with makeup and trying out new ideas is a whole lot of fun, especially if you are having a girls’ night in. Eye makeup can seem very complicated with blended shades and all the brushes especially if you are a makeup novice
The last thing I want is for you to feel intimidated at the prospect of doing your own eye shadow. There is no need for you as a beginner to shy away from using eyeshadow.
Here is a really easy eyeshadow tutorial that will help you understand the fundamentals. It will help you learn to apply eye makeup as if you have been doing it for years
As you gain confidence, you can gradually incorporate some of the more advanced methods that I’ll teach you in future articles.
What You Need For Doing Basic Eye Makeup
As regards makeup for beginners, there are a couple of key basics that you will need to stock up on before you can even think of starting your eyeshadow tutorial. Make a list so that you can grab these eye makeup necessities, then get to work.
- Eye shadow primer: If you want to help ensure your makeup look lasts, you’ll need an eye makeup primer that locks everything in place.
- Eye Shadow Palette: Half the battle in managing to apply more than one shade of eye shadow is picking colors that work well together. Instead of the hit and miss struggle of finding four complementary colors, stick with a palette that does the heavy lifting for you.
- Shading brush: Shading brushes are perfect for picking up pigmented products and applying shadow to larger areas.
- Blending brush: Who wants harsh lines and edges? Buff them away with a soft, tapered brush.
- Pencil brush: The small head of a pencil brush is just right for placing shadow in super-specific spots.
- Pencil Eyeliner in Black: The pencil eyeliner formula glides on easily for rich, smudge-resistant eye makeup that will last all day long.
- Washable Mascara: Fulfill your lash desires with a quality mascara that offers the look of voluptuous volume and lush length.
Your Easy Beginner Eye Makeup Tutorial
Yes, I know that eye shadow looks can be total works of art. However, you don’t have to be an artist to manage exceptionally well. Follow these simple steps to create a beginner’s eye look that is seriously striking.
Apply Eye Primer
In order to help keep your shadows from smudging and creasing throughout the day start with the eye shadow primer that I encouraged you to pick up earlier. It will also help the pigmentation pop even more. Blend a thin layer of primer onto your lids and up to your brow bones.
Brush On Your Base
Pick up your eye shadow quad palette and apply your base color. This is normally the second lightest shade in a palette.
Use your shading brush to apply the light shadow all over your lids.
Darken The Outer And Inner Corners
Coat your pencil brush in the next color in your palette, one shade darker than your base color.
Use the brush to place that color on the outer and inner corners of your lids, creating two “V” shapes lying on their sides.
Don’t worry if it looks a little bit messy at the moment, it will look a whole lot better when you get to blending.
Define Your Crease
To enhance the shape of your eyes, bring a small amount of that same darker shadow into your crease. You do this with the same pencil brush that you’ve just used for the inner and outer corners.
Blend, Blend, Blend, And Then Blend Some More
Blending is what will help solve all your eye shadow problems.
Take a blending brush and blur the edges between the two eye shadows you’ve used so far.
Since your palette contains colors that are meant to work together, they should blend together seamlessly.
Employ a “windshield wiper” motion with your brush to effortlessly smooth any harsh lines.
Highlight The Center
Wipe off your shading brush and pack it with the third shade in your palette, the lightest shade. Think of it as your highlighting shade. Place the color just on the centers of your lids. In other words, where the light would naturally hit your lids.
Use Eye Shadow As Your Eyeliner
You’ve made it to your final color. This should be your darkest shade, making it perfect to use as an eyeliner that matches your eye shadow.
Dip your pencil brush into the color and smudge the shadow right up against your lash line.
Tightline Your Eyes
While your eye shadow absolutely can be used as eyeliner, it can’t do everything.
In order to make your lashes appear thicker and more intense, you will want to apply an actual liner to your waterline.
Choose a pencil that’s smooth enough to glide onto this delicate area. Gently pull up on your eyelid to reveal your upper waterline. Then very carefully apply the liner directly to the base of your lashes.
There, you just tight-lined. That wasn’t too bad, was it?
Sweep On Some Mascara
You are almost finished. No eye makeup is complete without a coat of mascara. Place your mascara brush at the base of your lashes and gently pull upward to coat your lashes.
Take a step back and compliment yourself on a job well done.
