I’m sure that I’m not alone when I feel a little sadness when summer comes to a close. I love the feel of the warm sun on my freshly waxed legs as well as showing off my bright pink pedicure with open-toe sandals. However, the fall season offers us something to be excited about, a complete wardrobe change with a collection of new outfits for us to style in a femme way.
The changing leaves, softer light, and cooler temperatures mean the chance to break out our favorite sweaters and boots that have been waiting in the back of our closets for six months. This shift in perspective means that there is actually a lot to look forward to during this time of year.
The same applies to your makeup routine. Fall season is an opportunity to switch things up just as you would with your clothes and shoes. If you’re not sure where to start, I have you covered with multiple fall-season options. This can range from a new foundation, a bold new shade of lipstick, or a statement eye shadow to add to your collection.
If you are a new girl and this will be your first fall season being fully femme, a good idea will be to book a session with one of the girls at Sephora or with a professional makeup artist so that you can learn which of the fall-specific makeup shades works best with your skin tones and the outfit colors that you intend wearing this fall.
Be prepared to fall in love with your new fall look by making a few key updates to your makeup routine. Embrace the new season as an opportunity to take another step further into the world of living a fully femme life.
Fall Makeup Tip 1: Apply Color Correcting Concealer
If your complexion looks a little red after the summer months, help neutralize the appearance of redness by applying a green color-correcting concealer as the first step in your makeup routine.
I use the L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Color Correcting Crayon in Green (available on Amazon).
Remember to use green color-correcting concealer sparingly before moving on to the next step in your makeup routine. If you use too much it could give your complexion an underlying green palor which is not exactly what you want.
Fall Makeup Tip 2: Try A Radiant Finish Foundation
If you are like me, you may have found yourself going barefaced during the peak of the summer heat so that it doesn’t feel as if your makeup is melting from your face. However, now that things are cooling down, it’s the perfect time to add a foundation back into our routine.
Just because summer is ending doesn’t mean that we can’t still rock an eye-catching glow. Instead of using a matte or full coverage foundation like I usually wear during the winter months, choose one with a radiant finish, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro Glow Foundation (available on Amazon).
Apply your radiant-finish foundation with the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Blend Artist Foundation Blender (available on Amazon), bouncing it onto your skin to blend in the color.
Fall Makeup Tip 3: Add Highlighter And Blush To Your Cheeks
We started with a radiant-finish foundation, so let’s keep up the appearance of a summer glow by applying blush and highlighter to your cheeks.
To get the fall makeup look, I first dust the L’Oréal Paris Paradise Enchanted Fruit-Scented Blush Makeup in Charming (available on Amazon) onto the apples of my cheeks, then follow it up with a small dab of the L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Glow Amour Glow Boosting Drops in Daybreak (available on Amazon) along my cheekbones.
Fall Makeup Tip 4: Fill In Your Eyebrows
Summer is the time of year when I tend to get into the vacation spirit, letting things go a little, and just enjoying myself without putting a ton of effort into my appearance.
But now that fall is here, I find myself wanting to spend a few extra minutes on my makeup routine in the morning. I am sure that once you have tried these changes you will want to do likewise.
A groomed, full-looking set of brows can help define your whole face, so I use the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Shape & Fill Mechanical Pencil (available on Amazon) to fill in my arches before heading out for the day. Try it for yourself.
If you’re a girl who is not able to wear makeup due to personal circumstances or the cultural environment where you live, you can still take the time to work on your eyebrows. A well-groomed set of brows makes a subtle change to your overall look while still helping you feel femme all day long.
Fall Makeup Tip 5: Create A Statement Eye Look
One way to add to our makeup skills is to create a new statement eye look for the new season. As much as I’m comfortable with my existing makeup skills, I love the opportunity to try something new.
Fall makeup is all about sultry eye shadow shades in different finishes, for instance, metallic and matte. I chatted with makeover specialist Dafni Coco and below, we share our favorite eye shadows, eyeliners, and mascara for the fall season.
H3: Eye Makeup Shades For The Fall Season
L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints Metallics Eye Shadow in Rose Chrome (available on Amazon): Soft and shimmery, this rosy hue is perfect for the girl who wants to add a pop of subtle shimmering color to her lids.
L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints Metallics Eye Shadow in Brass Knuckles (available on Amazon): Go for gold with this glitzy brass hue that works beautifully in a smoky eye.
L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints Metallics Eye Shadow in Caged (available on Amazon): Add a light charcoal touch to your lids for a gorgeous gunmetal effect. Wear it on its own or pair it with a silver hue for a two-toned monochrome look.
L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints Metallics Eye Shadow in Violet Luster (available on Amazon): Just because summer has come and gone doesn’t mean you have to pack all your rainbow colors away. Instead of opting for earthy tones, try dusting your lids with this soft violet hue for a feminine look with an edgy twist.
L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints Metallics Eye Shadow in Aluminum Foil (available on Amazon): Silver is one of the season’s absolute hottest trends, making this aluminum-inspired hue a no-brainer.
L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow in Matte-ison Avenue (available on Amazon): Not much of a shimmery person? Opt for this dark brick color in a matte finish for a cozy autumnal feel.
L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow in Acro-matte (available on Amazon): Turn your dark brick wash into a dimensional two-toned look by adding a touch of this burnt orange matte shadow to the center of your lids and just above the outer edge of your crease.
L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow in Matte It Up (available on Amazon): Update your office makeup look with this matte beige shadow that just screams serious high fashion.
L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow in Mix and Matte (available on Amazon): Instead of relying on concealer, reach for this matte cream hue to help brighten up the look of your brow bone and the inner corners of your eyes.
L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow in Matte Chill (available on Amazon): If you have slightly more yellow undertones, this buttery cream color can work well as a highlighting shade for your lids.
L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Waterproof Pencil Eyeliner in Grey (available on Amazon): This black alternative can frame your eyes without making them appear too heavy.
L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Liquid Eyeliner in Rose Gold (available on Amazon): Let your lash lines match your glowing complexion with a touch of rose gold lining your eyes. While we love how this color looks on its own, you can also try layering it above your signature black eyeliner for an instantly updated cat eye.
L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Waterproof Pencil Eyeliner in Forest Green (available on Amazon): Another great alternative to black, forest green can add an autumnal hint of color that looks gorgeous when paired with matte eye shadows.
L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Washable Mascara (available on Amazon): No eye makeup look would be complete without a coat of mascara! Use this one after applying eye shadow and eyeliner.
Fall Makeup Tip 6: Rock A Bold Lip
Your new fall makeup routine is nearly complete. All we need to do is select a bold shade for your lips.
Again, we can take direction from the genius behind the Dafni Girls makeover studio when choosing between our favorite metallic and matte shades for painting your pout in the months ahead.
