How To Take Care Of Your Bra

Your bra is undoubtedly an important fundamental part of your closet. If the bra is perfect it makes you feel so much more confident and comfortable. And we all want to feel confidently feminine and beautiful.

Since your bra is so important, you need to take care of it so that it stays beautiful and lasts longer.

There are two methods you can use to wash your bra. The first is the traditional method of hand washing your bra and the second includes washing it using a machine.

I strongly suggest to all my girls that they should hand wash their first bras. This is especially true for the first couple of washes. The main reason is that the tactile action of hand washing your first bra will give you an intimate connection with your feminine inner self.

On the practical side, there are a few things that you should be aware of while washing and drying the bra:

Tips For Washing Your Bra

1. Avoid the usage of bleach

Bleach damages the fabric of the bra as it is delicate in nature, as well as destroying the elastic of the straps.

2. Washing the bra too often is bad

Avoid washing the bra too often as it damages the fabric. If you have a favorite bra, let it rest for 2-3 days and use the alternate ones so that the elastic can recover.

3. Use cool water and a mild detergent

Use only cool water to wash the bra and soak it for some time in the water after which use a mild detergent to wash the bra.

4. Read the instructions on the bra

Always remember to read instructions given on the bra and the packaging which states how to wash and dry it. The information given by the manufacturer is for your convenience and based on the exact fabrics.

5. Use a gentle cycle

While washing the bra in a machine use a gentle cycle as too much rubbing will damage the fabric.

6. Use a lingerie laundry bag

Make use of a smaller lingerie laundry bag while washing it in the machine. This is more important for under-wire bras. If an under-wire detaches from the bra it can easily go through the holes of the drum during the spin cycle and completely destroy your washing machine.

7. Wash whites with whites

Make sure you do not wash whites with the colored ones or the white will no longer be pure white and you will never get the color completely out of the white fabric again. Also, make sure you do not wash the bra with too many other heavy clothes like bed sheets in the machine. The extra friction will harm the fabric and the weight will bend the under-wires.

After washing the bra, drying it properly is also important.

How To Dry Your Bra?

1. Hang it to dry

Hanging the bra is the best way to allow it to air-dry but make sure that you don’t hang it out under the boiling hot mid-day sun as it may damage your bra. Excess heat will perish the elastic in the band and straps. The sun’s UV rays also break down synthetic fibers.

2. Spread it on a towel

Clip and spread the bra with the cups on the upper side on a piece of dry towel and allow it to air-dry on its own. This is what I do when I am traveling and staying in a hotel. I order a couple of spare towels and air dry all my lingerie on them after hand-washing.

3. Avoid dryers

The easiest way to destroy your bra quickly is to run it through the dryer. The higher the temperature setting the worse it will be for your bra. Plus it is completely unnecessary as your bra will air-dry overnight if you lay it on a towel.

These are a few useful ways to protect the bra from damage. After all, we all want our favorite bra to last us for a long time.
