How To Get Longer Eyelashes With 8 Easy Beauty Hacks

No matter what makeup look I’m going for, longer eyelashes always step things up another level. They are both glamorous and flirty. For those of us who aren’t blessed with naturally long lashes, we are always on the hunt for hacks to get longer eyelashes. All you need are a few hacks in your eye makeup routine to score longer eyelashes without the need to struggle with eyelash extensions or false eyelashes unless you really want to.

Here are my 8 hacks to get longer eyelashes:

  1. Heat Your Eyelash Curler
  2. Clean Your Mascara Wand
  3. Wiggle Your Mascara Wand
  4. Use An Eyelash Primer
  5. Comb Your Eyelashes
  6. Try Your Hand At Minking
  7. Take It Slow
  8. Choose A Lengthening Mascara

Let’s look at each of these 8 hacks to easily make your lashes look longer.

1: Heat Your Eyelash Curler

The first step in making your eyelashes look longer is with an eyelash curler. It is a tried and true method and every girl needs an eyelash curler in her makeup kit.

To up your eyelash curler game even further, use a blow-dryer to heat your eyelash curler for 10 to 15 seconds. Be very careful that your eyelash curler doesn’t get too hot as the skin of your eyelids is very delicate. Once your lash curler is warm, but not too hot, curl your eyelashes in the normal way.

The heat works to your advantage in the same way as a curling wand in your hair to give your lashes a lasting curl. Your eyelashes will look longer if they’re sweeping up toward your brows versus standing straight out.

2: Clean Your Mascara Wand

When it comes to mascara, the expression more is better does not work in your favor.

If you want longer-looking lashes, always remove excess product from your mascara wand. This is vital as the excess product works against you by allowing your lashes to clump together. The outcome will be getting in the way of the look you want to achieve, which is longer, fuller eyelashes.

Be sure to check out the article on Pink Femme about how to prevent your mascara from clumping.

3: Wiggle Your Mascara Wand

Wiggling your mascara wand is another easy way to get longer eyelashes. When I first learned about this technique to put on my mascara I was worried about getting product all over my eyes.

With just a little practice I got the technique down and this hack lives up to its reputation. In a way, it almost reminds me of the first time I ever put on mascara and my hand was a bit shaky.

Start off by getting as close to your lid as possible and wiggle the mascara wand as you sweep from the base to the end of your lashes. This will help get a more even coat of mascara on your lashes and leave you with a longer look.

4: Use An Eyelash Primer

Your foundation and eye makeup both work much better when you use makeup primer. The same theory holds true for mascara. Get yourself an eyelash primer and see the difference for yourself.

Apply eyelash primer just as you would your mascara. Gently sweep your lashes with primer from the base to the tip. I prefer using lash primers that have a light color, so I can easily tell once your eyelashes are completely coated. Once the primer is dry, follow up with your favorite mascara to enjoy long eyelashes. Again, because I use a light color eyelash primer I can see when I have all my lashes coated in mascara.

My two favorite eyelash primers are the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Primer (available on Amazon) and the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara Primer/Base (available on Amazon).

5: Comb Your Eyelashes

You brush your hair to separate hairs that have clumped together and add some volume to your hair. The same works for your lashes. Comb your lashes before you apply mascara and it will go a long toward achieving the appearance of long eyelashes.

This is a simple hack that can also limit the chance of any clumping later on when you apply your mascara.

6: Try Your Hand At Minking

I must admit that I went through most of my life without knowing what minking was, so don’t feel bad if this mascara technique is new to you. Thanks to my makeup artist friend, I get to learn new things as well.

When it comes to lengthening your eyelashes, minking is a good mascara technique to know. This method involves strategically using two different mascara colors to give the illusion of longer eyelashes.

When I tried this I started by coating my lashes with the L’Oréal Paris Bambi Eye Washable Mascara, Lasting Volume in Extra Noir (available on Amazon). Next was to sweep just the tips of my lashes with my normal black mascara and immediately my lashes looked longer.

7: Take It Slow

If you rush your mascara, the chances are that the coating will be uneven and your lashes won’t look as long as they possibly can.

When you apply mascara, you always want to make sure that you take your time. By slowly sweeping your lashes with mascara, you can increase both the intensity and length of your lashes.

8: Choose A Lengthening Mascara

There are plenty of lengthening mascaras on the market to choose from. When you have the right formula, it will help you achieve long eyelashes with hardly any

My favorite is the L’Oréal Paris Telescopic Original Waterproof Mascara (available on Amazon). Try it and see for yourself.

When it comes to my choices for makeup and beauty products, I only use  L’Oréal Paris (Available on Amazon). I have really sensitive skin and never once have I had any negative reaction to any L’Oréal product.
