How to Do Your Own Eyebrows

Let’s be completely honest. You and I both know that there’s no denying that well-sculpted brows can instantly upgrade your beauty look. Since your eyebrows frame your face and complement your features, staying on top of your brow maintenance is an absolute must. If heading to the salon is not an option, you can always learn how to do eyebrows at home. I’m sure that the thought may frighten you, but learning how to do your eyebrows is not nearly as hard as you might think.

With the right beauty tools and techniques and a confident spirit, you’ll be able to sculpt your eyebrows like a real pro. Are you at least a little intrigued? Follow along as I share how to do your eyebrows at home.

Eyebrow Technique 1: Trimming

Trimming is one of the easiest ways to groom your brows to perfection. An excellent option for those who stay on top of regular shaping sessions, trimming can help keep your brows nice and neat for a put-together appearance. Best of all, this technique is super easy to master. Simply brush your brows upward to identify which hairs need to be cut. Then use a pair of angled brow scissors—not regular scissors—and snip the longer hairs. Brush your brows back into place with a spoolie (click here to learn what a spoolie is), and you’re all set!

Eyebrow Technique 2: Tweezing

They say that beauty is pain, and tweezing definitely makes a case for it. Discomfort aside, this popular technique gives you the option to create a perfect arch or give your brows a quick clean-up for a salon-quality finish. Once you determine your face shape, all you have to do is outline your brows and pluck the hairs that fall outside the line.

Eyebrow Technique 3: Waxing

The idea of ripping unwanted hairs from your eyebrow area using hot wax can be scary, but the results are totally worth it. Similar to tweezing, the key to waxing your brows without any mishaps is to outline the natural shape of your eyebrows before you wax. Once you’ve done that, apply a small wax strip just outside of your outline, hold your skin taut, and use your other hand to quickly remove the strip from your skin—taking stray brow hairs with it.

If you prefer to use an at-home wax kit that requires you to apply wax directly onto the skin, you’ll follow the kit’s instructions to do just that. Once the wax is in place, apply cloth strips over the wax and press down firmly. Leave on for two to three seconds then remove the strip. That’s not so bad, right?

Keep in mind, if you’re using skin care products that contain retinol, you may want to try another option for your brows. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, you should avoid using skin care products containing retinol two to five days prior to waxing your face. Instead of running the risk of having an adverse reaction to the technique, keep things simple, and choose another eyebrow grooming method.

Eyebrow Technique 4: Shape With Makeup

Of course, if you’d rather take a fake it until you make it approach to doing your own eyebrows, makeup can whip your beauty look into shape in no time. From creating a flattering shape and filling in sparse brows to defining your arches, makeup covers all of the bases. Not to mention, this method is a great option for those who would much rather leave waxing and tweezing to the pros. Find your eyebrow makeup match below.

How To Take Care Of Your Skin Before And After Eyebrow Shaping

You may have mastered how to do your eyebrows, but your work is far from over. Once you choose the right eyebrow shaping technique for you, follow these tips to keep your brows in shape.

1. Cleanse Your Skin

Before you start with eyebrow hair removal or any shaping methods, you should always kick things off with a cleansing session. After all, we’re sure you don’t want any dirt, oil, or dead skin cells lingering on your skin. Keep things simple with a micellar water, like the L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser Waterproof – All Skin Types (available on Amazon), which works to lift impurities and makeup from skin for a refreshed and hydrated feel.

2. Bring On The Moisture

After your shaping is complete, the skin around your brows may be calling out for a nourishing moisturizer. Try the L’Oréal Paris Hydra Genius Daily Liquid Care – Normal/Oily Skin (available on Amazon), L’Oréal Paris Hydra Genius Daily Liquid Care – Normal/Dry Skin (available on Amazon), or L’Oréal Paris Hydra Genius Daily Liquid Care – Extra Dry Skin (available on Amazon). All three are formulated with aloe vera water and hyaluronic acid to envelop skin with moisture that goes the distance.
