How to Choose the Correct Heel Height for You

I remember when I was in my teens and started wearing heels for the first time. Due to my impatience, I picked out the highest heels that I could find. Luckily one of my mother’s friends owned a modeling school and took me aside and pointed out that I looked like Bambi on ice in the heels I was wearing and that I was learning bad habits that would ruin my ability to walk elegantly in heels that were the correct height for me.

The correct heel height for you is limited to the size of your foot, the anatomy of your foot, and the flexibility of your talus bone located in the lower part of your ankle.

Let’s study these factors in detail so that you can know how to measure your ideal heel height.

How to Choose the Correct Heel Height for You

Your correct heel height is based on the anatomy of your foot and the flexibility of the talus bone, located at the lower part of your ankle. When your foot is relaxed, the natural incline of your talus will determine whether you will be more comfortable wearing heels or flats.

If your toes point downward, you will be more comfortable in heels, whereas toes pointed upward are more suited for flat shoes. Measure the distance from the back of your heel to the ball of your feet to identify your correct heel height.

Other Features to Consider when Choosing a Comfortable Shoe

After determining your correct heel height, you must now ensure that you choose the correct shoe size. Measure the width and length of your foot to select the correct shoe size. There should be just enough room for your toes to wiggle but not too much to cause your foot to slide around.

Persons with high arches should choose shoes with rubber at the bottom of the heel to absorb the impact while walking. Before

purchasing new shoes, you should ensure that you try them on and walk around to ensure they are comfortable.

Importance of Wearing the Correct Heel Height

The most important reason for wearing the correct heel height is comfort. We wear shoes daily, and some of us will have to do a lot of walking depending on the type of job. Some women wear heels because it makes them feel confident and sexy, while others wear flats because it is more practical and comfortable. Wearing the wrong heel height is not only uncomfortable; it can affect your posture and the way you walk. The wrong heel height can also have long-term effects on your health and body.

Advantages of Wearing the Correct Heel Height

Being comfortable is not the only advantage of wearing the correct heel height. Wearing the correct heel height can improve your posture by distributing your weight evenly and keeping your body aligned. The right pair of shoes will improve blood circulation in your feet and make you more active. Let’s face it; wearing shoes that fit your foot comfortably and allows you to walk correctly is more fashionable than any expensive piece of footwear on the market. They also prevent foot deformities from happening.

Disadvantages of Wearing the Incorrect Heel Height

The wrong heel height can have numerous adverse effects on your health or cause significant deformities to your feet. A notable symptom of wearing the incorrect heel height is peripheral neuropathy, a tingling feeling, or decreased sensitivity in the feet. Plantar fasciitis is the inflammation of the fibrous tissue that connects the heel bone to the toes. This inflammation causes you to feel pain in your feet and usually happens in the morning and goes away throughout the day. Some deformities are ingrown toenails, bunions, corns, blisters, calluses, and hammertoes. Many of these deformities can be reversed but require surgery.
