If you have thin lips, you may have wondered whether there is a better way to apply your lip color.
First up, because you have less space to work with, it can be trickier to apply lipstick.
Secondly, you may be curious about what tips and tricks you can use to apply your lip color in a way that will give you the appearance of plumper, bigger lips.
The good news is that with the right makeup techniques and products, you can paint your pout with ease and even create the illusion of fuller lips.
Below is a step-by-step tutorial on how to apply lipstick for thin lips so you can put your best pout forward as part of your next makeup look.
Apply A Lip Balm
Whether you have thin or full lips, it’s always a good idea to start by applying a lip balm. Lipstick on dry lips looks terrible in nob time at all.
You never want to apply lipstick to dry lips. Your lips will absorb whatever moisture there is in your lipstick and result in an equally dry, flaky lipstick application.
Not to mention dry lips tend to look less plump. Not for me or you. Smooth on your lip balm of choice to give yourself a hydrated canvas to work with.
Over-Line Your Lips
The first trick that you need to learn for making thin lips appear bigger is over-lining your lips. The key is not to overdo it.
Use a lip liner in a hue close to your natural lip color. Then line just outside of your natural lip shape. Pay special attention to your cupid’s bow, creating a defined arch with your lip liner.
The good news for you is that I have a detailed step-by-step guide that will have you overlining your lips like a pro in no time. You can find it by clicking here.
Choose Your Colors
You will need two coordinating colors. Specifically, choose options that are two shades apart.
As a general rule of thumb, it’s a good idea to stick with a lighter lip color as this will help create the illusion of fuller lips. Dark colors, such as black and crimson actually make your pout look smaller.
Apply Your Lip Colors
The time has come to apply your lipsticks. Use a lip brush to help with a precise application, plus it will make blending your two shades a breeze.
First, apply the darker shade to the outer corners of your lips. Then, apply the lighter shade to the center.
Essentially, you’re contouring your lips. Use the lip brush to blend the two shades where they meet for a seamless transition between colors.
Even on days when you’re simplifying your lip look and wearing a single shade, I’d suggest that you still use your lip brush. The shape of a bullet lipstick works best on thicker lips. Using it directly on thin lips can result in coloring outside the lines. A lip brush will allow you to get your color exactly where you want it.
Highlight Your Cupid’s Bow
Next, to enhance an even fuller appearance you can use a fingertip to add a touch of highlighter onto your cupid’s bow and the center of your lips.
Contour Outside Your Lips
As I mentioned earlier, contouring your lips using two shades of lipstick can make a huge difference.
Contouring outside your lips is very effective too.
Use a small face makeup brush and apply concealer in a color that’s one to two shades darker than your skin tone just beneath the outline of your bottom lip.
This will give the look of a slight shadow below your lower lip and make it look much fuller.
Top It With A Gloss
When it comes to applying lipstick for thin lips, lip gloss is your secret partner-in-crime. Glossy lips reflect light. Immediately your lips will look plumper. Use a clear, high-shine formula to finish your lip look.
