When it comes to all the various makeup products, I’d consider makeup primer like the one product that can make the biggest difference in how well my makeup lasts through the day. I know the frustration of looking at your face in the mirror and noticing that your makeup has started to fade in the middle of the day. Or potentially even worse, seeing how your lipstick or eye shadow has migrated to other parts of your face. The question arises of how you can avoid any of this happening. The answer is makeup primer. Let’s take a closer look at what that is and how it can make your makeup application process better. What Is Makeup Primer Makeup primer is designed to help create a smooth canvas on which to apply the rest of your makeup products, as well as to help your makeup stay in place throughout the day. There are different primers specifically for the face, eyes, lashes, and lips. Using primer for face and eye makeup can also be useful if you have oily skin and tend to have issues with makeup moving around during the day. Primers will often have formulas that resemble serums, creams, or even tinted moisturizers. However, some can even come in the form of face mists. Besides choosing your primer based on your skincare concerns and makeup needs, I have found it beneficial to match my primer to my foundation. How To Apply Eye Primer When I first started doing all-day makeup for an internship during my summer break while I was at college I noticed that my eye makeup tended to smudge quite easily and my eyeliner would fade by the end of the day. I also noticed that the pigments of my eye shadow would fade as the day went on. I asked a friend who was studying at beauty school for advice and she told me that I should try using an eye primer first, before applying my eye makeup. In case you were wondering, the fix to my eye makeup problems was that easy. It might be the solution you need as well. Apply a little bit of eye primer onto your eyelids, gently blending it with your ring finger. I am always very gentle as my lids can bruise very easily. Also, if you wear eyeliner along your lower lash line or you like to add just a little shadow beneath your eyes, you should apply primer there as well. The three main purposes for using an eye primer as a way to prepare for your eye makeup are: it helps to create a smooth base for easier eye makeup application, it locks your look in place, and it will even make eye shadows appear more vibrant than before. How To Apply Eyelash Primer There was a time in my life when I would add layer after layer of mascara in an attempt to add volume to my lashes. More often than not I would just end up with clumped and smudged mascara which was hardly the look I was going for. Then I discovered lash primer and it made a massive difference. if you also can’t go a day without using mascara, then I would strongly suggest that you consider adding eyelash primer to your makeup routine. I can’t see any reason not to use an eyelash primer. It helps my lashes look longer and more voluminous without the clumped and smudged mascara I used to have. You use eyelash primer in the same way that you would use mascara. Place the primer brush at the base of your lashes and gently sweep up to the tip, coating all your lashes with primer. Allow the primer a moment to dry before layering your mascara on top. Be sure that you completely coat your lashes since lash primers are normally light in color, unlike mascara. This is what I like about eyelash primer. The light color of the primer lets you easily see which lashes don’t have a layer of primer. Then, when I apply mascara, I can also clearly see if any lashes are not properly coated. How To Apply Lip Primer I know that rocking a bold lip color is a sure way to grab everyone’s attention on a night out. When I have done that I’ve also spent a fair amount of time worrying about whether my lipstick has gotten on my teeth or looks patchy. This is where lip primer comes in handy. Before you swipe on your lipstick, use a lip primer to help smooth everything out to make you’re your lipstick application goes off without a hitch. Once your lips are primed, follow with your lip liner and finish with a long-lasting lipstick. The process is simple and gives you peace of mind knowing your lip color isn’t going anywhere.
