As girls, we know the feeling of not being fully satisfied with our looks – and attaching our happiness to something we are hoping will happen in the future. Maybe that is something as simple as losing 5 lbs or growing out your hair. Often, however, we attach our happiness to something that's out of our control like growing a pair of D-cups on HRT or finding a relationship partner that will not only accept your girliness but actively encourage your ongoing transition. The trouble with all of these is that you are betting your happiness on some future event that possibly might never happen. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t desire these things in our future or that we shouldn’t have goals and objectives to strive for. I firmly believe in the power of goals and objectives. That said, attaching all of your happiness to some possible future event puts your mental health at risk – especially if you don’t have direct control over the outcome. The moment that something happens that seems to move you further from your future objective you could easily be thrown into despair and depression. By way of an example, I can remember chatting to a delightful person a couple of years ago. They were living on their own post-divorce. They deeply desired to become more femme and live a girly life. However, instead of already starting to take the steps to add girliness to their lives while living on their own, they were instead waiting to meet a new girlfriend who would “force” them into the girliness they secretly desired. They had already been waiting nearly 2 years for the magical partner to arrive after 3 failed dating experiences. After much coaxing, I finally persuaded them to start living the girly life they desired while still on their own. Fast forward 6 months and by living girly they were able to meet someone who liked them in girl mode. Part of what will help you to become the girl that you have always wanted to be is the girly progress that you have made to get you to where you are today. So, let’s all connect our happiness to how girly we get to feel on the inside, right now – no matter how we might look to the outside world. Do something today that makes you feel just a little bit girlier than you did yesterday. Maybe it is something as simple as putting some scented body lotion on your legs after your next shower. I have a girly challenge for you that will help you get a girly boost and pull you into the space of being girly “right now, where you are.” Go to a department store – today, if possible. Head to the perfume counter and look through all the perfumes for the one that looks the girliest to you. Pick up the tester bottle and spray a little onto the inside of each wrist. Rub your wrists together, bring a wrist up to your nose, and breathe the girliness deep into your soul. You are girly and you know it. Hugs. A lot of people focus on where they’d like to be–somewhere tomorrow, or the next day, the next week, possibly the next year. Looking into your future, whether soon or in a galaxy far far away, is a good practice for finding discipline to endure. Yet, what about right now? No matter how girly you might be a year from now, or how far you will come to being a woman in five years, or how simply you decide to be a better girly boy for the rest of your life, I don’t believe your “now” should get lost in your future. I like living in the present. It’s a gift to be girly right now–to be 100% man while clothed 100% female. I like having this contrasting mindset that is utterly feminine in desires yet battling it out against the boy i am. I like pretty clothes squeezing my manly physique; bras on pecs, panties over…well, you know, and of course cute petite shoes on my ugly feet. lol That’s my present and it is my presence. Your present might look different than my “now”, but we’re all the better because of the girliness of where we are. Yes, we all have a future and we all wonder what that might look like. But we should find much joy in the here and now. So, put on a pair of panties today, enjoy the sensation of their gift to you, and just be content with where you are today.
