I am sure that you have come to realize that when it comes to makeup application, a solid foundation is key. By that I mean you will want to have a smooth canvas on which to apply the rest of your makeup. Luckily I have seven primer hacks for you that can come in handy and make your life just a little easier.
Here are my 7 primer hacks:
- Always Remember The Phrase “Less Is More”
- Apply Primer To Your Eyelids
- Tame Your Eyebrows With Primer
- Primer Helps Make Lipstick Last Longer
- Disguise The Look Of Redness By Using Makeup Primer
- Use Primer To Highlight Your Complexion
- Finish With Powder Or Setting Spray
Let’s take a closer look at each of these hacks in more detail so that you can take your base to a new level.
1: Always Remember The Phrase “Less Is More”
The term “the more the merrier” might apply to smiles, laughter, kisses, puppies, and parties, but when it comes to a primer that doesn’t work at all.
Covering your entire face takes a lot less primer than you probably think. Depending on which primer you use, as little as a pea-sized amount should be enough for your entire face.
Just apply your primer dot by dot and then blend in a gentle circular motion over your entire face or to targeted areas, for example under your eyes to smooth over fine lines.
2: Apply Primer To Your Eyelids
Don’t be shy about using primer on your eyelids. Just look for a primer that’s designed to be used before eye makeup application.
It will help create a smooth base for both your eye shadow and eyeliner. Eye primer keeps your eyeshadow color brighter for longer and can also help ensure your eye makeup doesn’t crease.
Just dot a little onto your lids with your ring finger and blend out.
3: Tame Your Eyebrows With Primer
This little-known hack is one step closer to bold-looking brows. Pat a little primer directly onto your brows and brush it through with a spoolie.
You can wear it alone to help keep every hair in place or alternatively layer your brow powders and pencils over the primer.
4: Primer Helps Make Lipstick Last Longer
If you thought the world of makeup primer ended with a face primer and an eye primer, you would be wrong. Lip primer exists too.
Pat a little lip primer onto your lips before applying lipstick. It will help your color glide on more easily and stay in place.
If you don’t have any lip primer you can use a tiny bit of foundation or concealer as a substitute for lip primer.
5: Disguise The Look Of Redness By Using Makeup Primer
If you have redness that you want to hide then you should look at a green primer. Red and green are opposite each other on the color wheel so they neutralize each other.
A color-correcting anti-redness primer has a green tint to help neutralize the appearance of redness on your skin.
6: Use Primer To Highlight Your Complexion
I am sure that you are well aware that strobing is one of the most popular makeup techniques these days. It can help bring attention to your best facial features.
If you want to make this trend part of your makeup game, reach for a primer that also highlights.
You can use a highlighting primer to create a sculpted effect by highlighting specific areas of your face. Alternatively, you could use your highlighting primer to help instantly brighten the look of your skin with a radiant finish.
7: Finish With Powder Or Setting Spray
The choice to use primer as the first step in your makeup routine is always a good idea if you want to help keep your makeup look in place.
However, the way you finish things off is equally important.
So, once you’ve applied all your makeup, finish off with a dusting of loose setting powder or a spritz of a setting spray.
If you are using a setting spray, hold the bottle 8-10 inches away, close your eyes and spray four to six times in an X and T motion.
