10 Key Makeup Tips You Need For Wearing Your Mask

One key factor these days is that if you plan on wearing makeup while out and about is that you’ll likely be wearing a mask to cover your look.

If you are shy or new to being girly this might be your opportunity to step outside wearing lipstick for the first time, knowing that it is safely hidden under your mask.

However, for those of you who already head out wearing makeup, there are a few important rules to keep in mind when it comes to wearing makeup and a mask at the same time.

Don’t Skip Primer

If you don’t have a reliable makeup primer, now is the time to invest in one.

Primer helps to increase the durability of your face makeup. That means withstanding the riggors of wearing makeup under a mask for a long period of time.

Opt For Skin-Boosting Foundation

Since your skin will be hidden under a mask for most of the day, choose a foundation that will give your skin some moisturizing care at the same time as giving you coverage.

I use a foundation that has sun protection as well even though I am wearing a mask. I don’t want mask tan-lines on my face.

Turn To Concealer To Attract Attention To Your Eyes

Concealer is another face makeup product that is more important than before. What is different is you can now use concealer in a color that’s one to two shades lighter than your skin tone so that you draw attention to your eyes.

Apply the appropriate shade of concealer in upside-down triangles under your eyes. This will give you a wide-awake appearance.

Remember, this is more important than ever since your eyes will be what’s left to make an impression when you have your mask on.

Use a Long-Wearing Blush

Your cheeks will likely be part covered and partly exposed while wearing your mask.

You need a long-wearing, non-transferable blush that won’t smudge or transfer off onto the top edge of your mask.

I use a stick blush that won’t budge.

Highlight For Contrast

Remember that this radiant makeup product isn’t just for your cheekbones. In fact, there is an even better placement recommendation for when you do mask makeup.

I apply highlighter on the inner corners and beneath the arch of my brows as a way to bring extra attention to my eyes while wearing a mask.

Emphasize Your Eyes

In case you didn’t pick up on the theme or didn’t see the memo, eye makeup is critical to your look when wearing a mask.

It is not for nothing that eye makeup has overtaken lipstick as the biggest selling makeup category.

Eyeshadow is the key part of your mask eye makeup because it is the first thing people will notice beyond your mask.

There are plenty of opportunities to try new trends and styles. However, if you are new to the delicate art of eyeshadow, here is the beginner’s tutorial that I put together to help you.

Obviously you will want to play up your eyes more than usual. So make sure to reach for your eyelash curler and volumizing mascara. Here is the article that I wrote about how to use your eyelash curler.

Boost Your Brows

Be sure to shape your eyebrows as well. I wrote a tutorial about how to feminize your eyebrows.

Go For Longwear, Matte Lipstick

I know the last thing we think about while wearing a mask is our lip color. At the same time, there will likely be times during the day when you will be removing your mask.

You will need a reliable and long-lasting lipstick that won’t smudge or rub off behind your mask.

For that reason, I go for matte over gloss so that I don’t have to worry about smudging at all.

Set Your Makeup

The one sure way to ensure your makeup doesn’t smudge or fade due to your face mask is to use a setting spray.

Even if you are not wearing a mask, setting spray keeps your makeup looking like it is freshly applied for hours.

Take It Off At The End Of The Day

Removing your makeup at the end of the day is a vital part of your beauty routine. Failing to do so can result in breakouts and other unwanted skin problems.

The skin under your mask doesn’t get exposure to fresh air like the rest of your face and so will need extra care.

Saturate a cotton swab with the Micellar Cleansing Water to gently remove makeup before you go to bed.

What I Use

When it comes to my choices for makeup and beauty products, I only use  L’Oréal Paris (Available on Amazon). I have really sensitive skin and never once have I had any negative reaction to any L’Oréal product.
